Mention of Jedburgh first appears in the minutes of the Associate Presbytery in 1739 and in 1741 a number of Seceders living in and around Jedburgh were disjoined from the charge at Morebattle and formed into a separate congregation. The first minister of Jedburgh Associate congregation, which belonged to the Burgher branch of the Secession Church, was ordained in 1746. In 1900, upon the union of the Free Church and the Church of Scotland, Jedburgh Blackfriars, United Presbyterian became Jedburgh Blackfriars United Free Church and in 1917 a union was established between Jedburgh Blackfriars United Free and Jedburgh Boston United Free. After the union the former Boston church was used as the place of worship, until 1930 when the congregation moved to the Blackfriars Church. The Boston church and hall were sold two years later. Following the 1929 union between the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland, the united congregation was renamed Jedburgh Boston-Blackfriars and a further union followed in 1956 with the charge of Jedburgh Abbey, under the name of Jedburgh Trinity. Jedburgh Trinity Church of Scotland falls under the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of Jedburgh. |
