The congregation of Kilbirnie East Free Church, which sat within the Presbytery of Ardrossan, was formed in 1843 at the time of the Disruption. A hall was erected for the purpose of public worship in the same year and in 1844, the year in which the charge was sanctioned, the church was built. In 1900, upon the union of the Free Church and the United Presbyterians Kilbirnie East Free Church became Kilbirnie East United Free Church and a new church was erected in 1903. Following the 1929 union between the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland, Kilbirnie East United Free became Kilbirnie East Church of Scotland and in 1964 Kilbirnie East was united with the congregation of Kilbirnie West, under the name of Kilbirnie St Columba's. |
