In 1843, the year of the Disruption, services began in West Calder for those resident in the area who adhered to the Free Church, and in 1868 the charge was sanctioned by the Assembly. The development of mining and the oil trade in the district brought about a population increase and consequently a preaching station was opened at Addiewell and an iron church was erected in 1874. In 1900, following the union of the Free Church and the United Presbyterians, West Calder Free Church was renamed West Calder Limefield, and at or just after the 1929 union between the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland, West Calder Limefield joined the United Free Church (Continuing). West Calder Free Church sat within the Presbytery of Linlithgow until 1892 when it was transferred to that of Edinburgh. |
