Strathaven Associate Congregation, which belonged to the Antiburgher branch of the Secession Church, was established in 1765. From the time of the Breach of 1747 the Antiburgher families of Strathaven had formed a part of the congregation of Hamilton, however on the grounds of distance, they were erected in 1765 into a separate congregation. The church of Strathaven Associate had been built in the previous year and the first minister of the charge was ordained in 1766. In 1900, upon the union of the Free Church and the United Presbyterians, Strathaven United Presbyterian was renamed Strathaven Greenside United Free Church and the congregation was dissolved a number of years thereafter in 1907. The congregation of Strathaven United Presbyterian and Greenside United Free sat within the Presbytery of Hamilton. |
