In Edinburgh in 1824, a meeting of the Relief Synod took place, at which it was decided that an institution should be set up for the purpose of teaching theology, under the Synod's own inspection and conducted by an individual appointed by themselves. As part of this organisation a committee was appointed who were to have the superintendence of the hall. The first meeting of the Relief Hall Superintending Committee took place in Paisley Second Relief Church on September 14th 1824, at which it was decided what books should be purchased for the library. The committee met regularly in Glasgow until 5th October 1846, the date upon which the final meeting was held. |
