On the 10th October 1827 a meeting of Relief Theological Students was held in the Relief Divinity Hall in Paisley, the purpose of the meeting being to form themselves into a Society for Missionary Purposes. Many of the students already belonged to local organisations of a similar nature however it was felt that one main body should be set up, and accordingly on this day the 'Society of Relief Theological Students in Aid of Missions' was established. The aims and purposes of the society included the ability to gain more distinct information regarding the state of the religious world and the promotion of a missionary spirit. |
