The congregation of Prestonpans United Free Church, which sat within the Presbytery of Haddington and Dunbar, was established in 1843 at the time of the Disruption when the minister of the parish church of Prestonpans adhered to the Free Church. Worship initially took place in barns belonging to a Mr Robert Hislop of Prestonpans, until a site upon which to erect a church was granted to the charge by Mr Hislop. A church was consequently erected in 1844 and later reconstructed in 1878. A manse was also gifted to the congregation by Mr Hislop. In 1900, upon the union of the Free Church and the United Presbyterians, Prestonpans Free Church became Prestonpans United Free Church and a mission hall was erected at Cuthill in 1910, the building however was later condemned and was sold in 1945 after being requisitioned by the military authorities. Following the 1929 union between the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland, Prestonpans United Free was renamed Prestonpans Grange Church of Scotland and in 1975 a link was established between Prestonpans Grange and the congregation of Ormiston. This arrangement was later terminated in 1981 in favour of a union between Prestonpans Grange and Prestonpans Preston, under the name of Prestonpans Prestongrange. The congregation of Prestonpans Prestongrange sits within the Presbytery of Lothian. |
