The congregation of Pitcairngreen Associate, which belonged to the Antiburgher branch of the Secession church, was established in 1797 as a result of a petition presented to the Presbytery of Perth requesting that a congregation be established in the village of Pitcairngreen. A preaching station was accordingly opened during that same year and in 1798 a church was erected to house the Pitcairngreen congregation, the site upon which the church was erected having been secured for 99 years. In 1800 John Brown, the first minister of the congregation, was ordained. In 1842 the third minister of Pitcairngreen Associate, Andrew Lambie, took the decision to detached himself and his congregation from the authority of the Original Secession Synod, in protest of the recent union with the Burgher Churches. The congregation continued alone for a number of years thereafter however in 1851 Mr Lambie published a second address outlining his reasons for withdrawing his congregation from Synodical control. Although the exact timescales are not known, this appears to mark the beginning of the decline of Pitcairngreen Associate congregation, the church was soon after sold and later demolished. |
