The congregation of Paisley Canal Street Relief church was established in 1780, a church was opened to house the congregation in 1782 and in the following year Patrick Hutchison, the first minister of the session, was ordained. In 1900, upon the union of the Free Church and the United Presbyterians, Paisley Canal Street United Presbyterian became Paisley Canal Street United Free Church and following the 1929 union between the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland, the charge became Paisley Canal Street Church of Scotland. In 1975 Paisley Canal Street formed a union with the congregation of Paisley Middle, under the name of Paisley Castlehead. |
