Muirkirk United Presbyterian Church, Ayrshire, originated with a body of seceders who applied for supply of sermon to the United Associate Presbytery of Kilmarnock in 1820 and proceeded to build a church (opened 1823). This became successively a United Presbyterian and United Free church, and in 1915, as Muirkirk Main Street United Free, united with Chalmers Church to form Muirkirk United Free. After the union of 1929 the Main Street building was sold. The Kirk Sessions of presbyterian churches were modelled on those of the established church. |
