Muirkirk Wellwood Church, Ayrshire, originated at the Disruption as Muirkirk Free Church. The charge was sanctioned and a church built in 1845. It belonged to Ayr Presbytery until 1861, thereafter to that of Irvine. After the union of 1900 it became Muirkirk Chalmers United Free Church, which in 1915 united with Muirkirk Main Street as Muirkirk United Free. After the union of 1929 this became Muirkirk Wellwood Church of Scotland, which in turn united with Muirkirk Old as Muirkirk in 1949. As a Church of Scotland charge it was in the presbytery and synod of Ayr. |
