At the time of the Disruption in 1843 the Evangelical charge already in existence within Muckairn, divided for a time between the ministers of Kilchrennan and of Ardchattan, until a Free Church charge was ordained in 1844. In 1860, a church and a manse were erected , the congregation having prior to this time worshipped in an old storehouse belonging to the Lorn Furnace Company. An additional church was later erected at Inverguisachan, near the head of Loch Etive, where occasional service took place. In 1900, upon the union of the Free Church and the United Presbyterians, Muckairn Free Church became Muckairn United Free Church and following the 1929 union between the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland, Muckairn United Free became Muckairn West Church of Scotland. In 1930 Muckairn West united with the Parish Church congregation of Muckairn and following this local union the former West church was converted for use as the church hall. Muckairn Free Church, United Free Church and Church of Scotland sat within the Presbytery of Lorn. |
