Newton Mearns Church, Renfrewshire, originated in 1738 when a group in Mearns parish adhered to the Associate Presbytery. This became successively Mearns Antiburgher Church, Mearns United Presbyterian and Newton Mearns United Free Church. The church, in the Ayr road north of Mearns Cross, was built in 1939 on the site of an earlier building. As a Church of Scotland charge it is in the presbytery of Glasgow and was formerly in the synod of Clydesdale. |
