In December 1844 the Free Presbytery of Duns and Chirnside was petitioned by 44 adherents of the Free Church requesting that a church and minister be supplied at Longformacus. Consequently, a mission preacher was appointed in the following year and the church was built soon after in 1848. A manse was later erected in 1870, the year in which the charge was sanctioned. The congregation of Longformacus Free Church consisted mainly of farmers and shepherds who traveled considerable distances to attend church. In 1900, upon the union of the Free Church and the United Presbyterians, Longformacus Free Church became Longformacus United Free Church. The congregation was later dissolved in 1930. |
