The congregation of Lochlee Free Church, which sat within the Presbytery of Brechin, was established in 1843 at the time of the Disruption, when a number of the congregation of the Parish Church of Lochlee adhered to the Free Church. The charge was sanction in 1845 and in the early years the session met within the Free Masons Lodge, until a church and manse were erected on a site granted by the Earl of Dalhousie in 1857-1858. In 1900, upon the union of the Free Church and the United Presbyterians, Lochlee Free Church became Lochlee United Free Church and following the 1929 union between the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland, Lochlee United Free became Tarfside Maule Memorial Church of Scotland. In 1932 Tarfside Maule Memorial united with the Parish Church congregation of Lochlee to form the session of Glenesk. |
