The congregation of Laurencekirk Free Church, which sat within the Presbytery of Fordoun, was established in 1843 at the time of the Disruption when a group from the Established church adhered to the Free Church. A church manse and school were erected soon after, however a new church was built in the 1850's and the first building was converted for use as a dwelling house. In 1900, upon the union of the Free Church and the United Presbyterians, Laurencekirk Free Church became Laurencekirk United Free Church and in 1929, following the union between the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland, Laurencekirk United Free was renamed Laurencekirk West Church of Scotland. A number of years thereafter in 1954, Laurencekirk West united with the Parish Church congregation of Laurencekirk East, under the ministry of Rev. A.M. Weir, minister at Laurencekirk East and under the name of Laurencekirk. |
