The congregation of Lauder Free Church was established in 1843 at the time of the Disruption and the session worshipped for a time in an old school until the church was opened in December of 1843. In 1900, upon the union of the United Presbyterians and the Free Church, Lauder Free Church became Lauder East United Free Church and in 1908 Lauder East was joined with the former United Presbyterian congregation of Lauder West. The two congregations were joined under the name of Lauder United Free and the former Free Church was sold two years thereafter in 1910. In 1929, following the union between the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland, Lauder United Free was renamed Lauder West Church of Scotland. The congregation of Lauder West, which sat within the Presbytery of Melrose, was dissolved in 1955. |
