The congregation of Kilbrandon and Kilchattan Free Church, which sat within the Presbytery of Lorn, was established at the time of the Disruption in 1843 when the minister of Kilbrandon Parish Church, and the majority of his congregation, adhered to the Free Church. Prior to the opening of a new church to house the congregation in 1846 Kilbrandon and Kilchattan Free Church worshiped during the winter months in a tent which had been gifted by the Marquis of Breadalbane. In 1900, upon the union of the United Presbyterians and the Free Church, the session was renamed Kilbrandon United Free Church and the church and the manse of Kilbrandon and Kilchattan Free were allocated to the Free Church (continuing) For a time the congregation had to worship in the Volunteer Hall however a new church was erected soon after in 1909. Following the 1929 union between the Free Church and the Church of Scotland, Kilbrandon United Free became Kilbrandon and Kilchattan North, Church of Scotland and in 1932 the charge was united with the congregation of Kilbrandon and Kilchattan South. After this local union, under the name of Kilbrandon and Kilchattan, the former United Free Church was converted for use as the church hall. |
