Keiss United Free Church, which sat within the Presbytery of Caithness, began life as the congregation of Keiss Free Church and first originated in 1843 at the time of the Disruption, when the minister and a number of the congregation of Keiss Parish Church adhered to the Free Church. In 1900, upon the union of the United Presbyterians and the Free Church, Keiss Free became Keiss United Free Church and a new church and manse were opened in 1909. Keiss United Free Church was later renamed Keiss West Church of Scotland following the 1929 union between the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church, and in 1942 Keiss West was joined with the congregation of Keiss Macleay. After this local union , under the name of Keiss Church of Scotland, the former West church ceased to be used as a place of worship. |
