The congregation of Inverness Queen Street United Secession was formally organised on the 14th May 1839 and the first minister of the charge, Alexander Munro, was inducted in 1842. Inverness Queen Street had been the result of a petition presented to the Presbytery of Elgin in 1829, requesting sermon in the Gaelic language, and consequently the majority of services held within the Queen Street Church were initially conducted in Gaelic. In 1900, upon the union of the Free Church and the Church of Scotland, Queen Street United Presbyterian became Queen Street United Free Church and following the union between the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church the charge became Inverness Queen Street Church of Scotland. Queen Street Church of Scotland was later united in 1971 with the congregation of Inverness Merkinch, under the name of Inverness St Mark's. |
