The congregation of Inverkip Free Church, which sat within the Presbytery of Greenock, was formed in 1843 at the time of the Disruption when a number of the congregation of Inverkip Parish church adhered to the Free Church. The charge was immediately sanctioned, a probationer was appointed, and a church to house the congregation was erected in 1845. In 1900, upon the union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church, Inverkip Free Church became Inverkip United Free and following the 1929 union between the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland, Inverkip United Free was renamed Inverkip West Church of Scotland. Inverkip West was later united in 1936 with the congregation of Inverkip East, under the name of Inverkip, and following this local union the former West church was converted for use as the church hall. |
