The congregation of Inverkeilor Free Church, which sat within the Presbytery of Arbroath, was established in 1843 at the time of the Disruption when the minister of the parish church of Inverkeilor, and a number of his congregation, adhered to the Free Church. A church and a manse were erected soon after. In 1900, at the time of the union of the Free Church and the United Presbyterians, Inverkeilor Free Church became Inverkeilor United Free Church and in 1929, following the union between the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church, Inverkeilor United Free became Inverkeilor St John's Church of Scotland. Inverkeilor St John's later united in 1948 with the congregation of Inverkeilor St Murdoch's under the name of Inverkeilor, and after this local union the former St John's church was converted for use as the church hall. |
