A mission station began in Harthill in 1869 due to the increase of the population as aconsequence of the opening of mines in the area in 1868. Between 1872 and 1874 the charge was incorporated with the congregation of Whitburn, but was sanctioned once again in 1874 to full status. The charge moved to the United Free Church in 1900, and then to the Established Church in 1929 as Harthill Forrest Memorial Church of Scotland. A union with Harthill and Benhar took place in 1953; the united charge taking the name Harthill St Andrew's Church of Scotland. |
