A Free congregation was formed at Ballater immediately after the Disruption of 1843. Initially services were held in the open air and then in a sheep-cote, before the charge was fully sanctioned towards the end of 1843 when a church and manse were erected, albeit some distance from the village itself. However, a new site was found within the village in 1869, and a new church was built there. The charge passed to the United Free Church in 1900, and subsequently to the Established Church in 1929. In the latter case as Ballater North Church of Scotland. A union took place with Ballater South in 1938, and the united charge was termed Glenmuick (Ballater) Church of Scotland. |
