The minister and congregation of the Quoad Sacra charge of West Rutherglen 'came out' at the Disruption of 1843 to form Rutherglen Free Church of Scotland. They alternated their worship betwen the same Church of Scotland building and a local United Presbyterian church until 1849. A new church was built and opened the following year. In 1900 the congregation passed to the United Free Church as Rutherglen West United Free and supported a Mission Hall in Harriet Street. The United Free Church passed back into the Established Church in 1929, and Rutherglen followed suit as Rutherglen Munro Church of Scotland. A union took place with the original congregation of Rutherglen West in 1965, keeping the name Rutherglen West Church of Scotland. |
