The Free Church building at Bridgegate was built in 1860. It was an offshoot from the Wynd Church and several members of the congregation from Wynd, including the minister, transferred to the new church. In 1900 the charge passed to the United Free Church as Bridgegate United Free, but was reduced in status between 1908 and 1915. In 1921 the congregation became known as New Bridgegate United Free Church. The congregation then passed back to the Established Church in 1929 as New Bridgegate Church of Scotland. The church also had a suite of halls and a manse and a temporary hut was used for youth and other organisations. The temporary hut was demolished in 1950 and a new prefabricated building was erected in its stead. |
