The Free Church in Shawlands began in 1898 when a hall was built at Shawlands Cross on a site secured for a church. This new congregation was brought together under the ministry of Rev David Forsyth and thrived due to a rapidly increasing population in the area. The congregation passed successively to the United Free Church in 1900, and to the Church of Scotland in 1929 as Shawlands Cross. A union of Shawlands Cross and Shawlands Old took place on 3 Sep 1998 under the name of Shawlands Church of Scotland, and a further union occurred in 2017 with the congregation of South Shawlands, to form Shawlands Trinity Church of Scotland. |
