The minister and congregation of Wallacetown Church Extension Church 'came out' at the Disruption of 1843, to form Wallacetown Free Church. Initiall they worshipped in their same building, but in 1853 the trustees sold the church and as a consequence the congregation held their services in a schoolroom lent to them by the Baxter Brothers. A new church was built in 1857, but was sold to the School Board in 1892. Another new church was erected near Baxter Park, and opened for worship in 1894, it was at this time that the congregation took the name of Baxter Park Free Church. In 1900 the Free Church united with the United Presbyterian Church to form the United Free Church, and Baxter Park Free congretation became Baxter Park United Free Church. The United Free Church passed back to the Established Church in 1929, the congregation taking the name Baxter Park Church of Scotland. A union of three congregations took place on the 29 April 1981; Baxter Park, Wallacetown and St Matthews, to form Trinity Church of Scotland. |
