The first minister of Kilmarnock Portland Road United Presbyterian church was ordained on the 23 August 1775, under whose ministry the congregation thrived. At the union of the United Presbyterian Church and the Free Church in 1900, the congregation became Kilmarnock Portland Road United Free Church. A small hall, the Rogerson Memorial Hall was erected sometime later in memory of the sons of members Mr and Mrs Rogerson, who died during the Great War. In 1929 the United Free Church passed back to the Established Church, and the congregation became Kilmarnock Portland Road Church of Scotland. A Mission Hall was also built at this time, but was later sold. A union followed in 1965 with the Kilmarnock King Street Church of Scotland congregation, under the new name of Kilmarnock Howard Church of Scotland. A further union took place with the congregation of Kilmarnock St Andrew's North in 1984, forming Kilmarnock Howard St Andrew's Church of Scotland. |
