Dundee Presbytery opened a mission in Hospital Wynd in 1875, with the consent of the Dundee Chapelshade office-bearers. In 1877 it was raised to the status of a station and a new church was erected. The charge was sanctioned as Dundee High Free Church in 1878 under the ministry of Rev Gavin Anderson. The charge passed to the United Free Church in 1900 as Dundee High United Free Church. There was a church and hall and a manse was purchased in December 1925. The addition of an organ and two side galleries were introduced in 1906 and 1928 respectively. By the time the congregation had passed to back to the Established Church as Dundee High Church of Scotland, the membership was flourishing and a large hall was added in 1937 and a parcel of land behind the church was purchased for the building of a Youth Club in 1947. The congregation united with that of Dundee St David's North Church of Scotland in 2003 to form Dundee: St David's High Kirk. Worship continued in the High Kirk building and the St David's North Church building was demolished. |
