James Anderson, minister of the parish, 'came out' along with many of his congregation at the Disruption of 1843. A church was built for the new congregation fairly quickly and a manse followed in 1846. The church was burned down in 1871, and the congregation worshipped in the parish church, which was offered to them by the minister, Rev Paton J. Gloag before they moved into the schoolroom in Blantyre works. In 1872 a new church was built and opened for worship. At the union of the Free Church and the United Presbyterian Church in 1900, the church became Blantyre Anderson United Free Church, and in 1929 the charge passed to the Church of Scotland, keeping the name Blantyre Anderson. The Church of Scotland charge was linked with Blantyre Stonefield in August 1964, but the link was terminated later in the same year when it was decided that Blantyre Stonefield and Blantyre Burleigh Memorial should form a union. The united charge, Blantyre Stonefield and Burleigh Church, kept its link with Blantyre Anderson, however, in 1976 the link was terminated in favour of a union, the new congregation being named Blantyre St Andrew's Church of Scotland. |
