The church at Greenbank began its life as a church extension charge of Braid United Presbyterian Church. On 27 May 1900 the Convenor of the Presbytery's Extension Committee officially opened the hall at Greenbank for public worship, and in July 1900, after a petition from the members of the station, the Presbytery granted the charge full status as Greenbank United Presbyterian Church. When the United Presbyterian Church united with the Free Church to form the United Free Church in 1900, the charge became Greenbank United Free Church. The members were still worshipping in the Hall at this time, but arrangements for the building of a new church began to be discussed in 1914. With the onset of the Great War in 1914, the building project was inevitably postponed. After the war, however, the project was reinstated, and on 24 April 1926 the Foundation Stone was laid. The new church was dedicated for public worship on 8 October 1927. In 1929 the United Free Church united with the Established Church and this congregation became Greenbank Church of Scotland. |
