The congregation of Haddington East United Presbyterian church, which belonged to the Burgher branch of the Secession church, was established in 1750 and the first minister of the charge, John Brown, was ordained in 1751. The first church of the congregation had to be rebuilt as early as the 1760's and the second building was in turn replaced in 1805. In 1900, upon the union of the United Presbyterians and the Free Church, Haddington East United Presbyterian became Haddington East United Free Church, the congregation however was dissolved soon after in 1903. Haddington East United Presbyterian and United Free sat within the Presbytery of Edinburgh and later of Haddington and Dunbar. |
