In 1877 the town of Banchory was growing both in population and importance, and so the Presbytery of Aberdeen took steps to form a congregation at Banchory. A chapel and manse were purchased, and in June 1878 Banchory United Presbyterian Church was opened by the Home Secretary. When the United Presbyterian Church united with the Free Church in 1900, Banchory United Presbyterian became Banchory Ternan North United Free Church and later in 1918 united with Banchory Ternan South to form Banchory United Free Church under the ministry of Rev Duncan Macrae Munro. In 1929 the United Free church passed back to the Established Church, and the congregation of Banchory United Free continued to worship under the leadership of Rev Munro, but became known as Banchory Ternan West Church of Scotland. |
