The congregation of Dundee Martyrs has its origins in the Reformed Presbyteryian Church, latterly under the ministry of Rev John Wyllie. In 1876 some Reformed Presbyterian congregations joined the Free Church of Scotland, and Martyrs was one such congregation. The charge became Dundee, Martyrs Free Church, and kept their minister, Rev Wyllie, their church, buildings and manse. In 1900 the Free Church passed to the United Free Church and Martyrs followed suit. Later, in 1929, when the Free Church passed back to the Established Church the congregation became Dundee, Marytrs' Church of Scotland. A union with the congregation of Dundee, Balgay St Thomas's took place in 1973; the united charge taking the name of Dundee, Balgay Church of Scotland. |
