The first church in Stewarton was built in 1775 as Stewarton Antiburgher or Associate church. In 1847 at the union of the two breakaway churches of the 18th century, namely the Associate (or Secession) and Relief Churches, Stewarton United Presbyterian Church was formed. When the Free Church and the United Presbyterian Church united in 1900, the congregation became Cairns United Free Church, and subsequently passed to the Established Church in 1929 as Cairns Church of Scotland. |
