This congregation was formed in 1843 by those who came out at the Disruption. However, the minister did not feel he could adhere to the Free Church and due to his popularity with the parishioners, the Established Church continued to command a strong hold on the parish. The site for the church was granted by Mr Bontine of Ardoch, and the church was opened in June 1844. A new church was erected in 1871, a gift of Mr Burns of Kilmahew. The deed of gift provided that "it shall go with that portion of the Free Church uniting with the United Presbyterian (in the event of a union), without any compensation to those members not joining the union". When the Free Church and the United Presbyterian Church united in 1900, Cardross United Free Church was formed. Subsequently, the charge passed back to the Established Church as Cardross Burns Church of Scotland in 1929. In 1945 the congregation united with that of Cardross Burns as Cardross Parish Church. |
