Dunning Free Church congregation was formed at the time of the Disruption of 1843. Since there was difficulty in finding a site for the church, the congregation worshipped in a tent initially, but a church was built near Dunning Burn and opened in February 1844. When the union of the United Presbyterian and Free Churches took place in 1900, the former United Presbyterian Church in Dunning took the name of Townhead Church, and the Free Church the name of South Church. In 1908 Dunning South (the former Free Church) and Dunning Townhead (the former burgher, United Presbyterian Church) united to form Dunning United Free Church. |
