Gordon Free Church, which originally sat within the Presbytery of Kelso, was established in 1843 at the time of the Disruption and a church to house the newly formed congregation was erected during the same year. In 1900, following the union of the Free Church and the United Presbyterians, Gordon Free Church became Gordon United Free and in 1912 the charge was transferred by the General Assembly to the Presbytery of Duns and Chirnside. A number of years thereafter in 1929, following the union of the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland, Gordon United Free was renamed Gordon East, Church of Scotland. In 1931 the buildings of Gordon East were leased to the United Free Church. (Continuing) and a portion of the congregation of Gordon East, Church of Scotland left to join the United Free Church (Continuing). |
