Pollokshaws East Church, Glasgow, originated with the formation of an Seceder congregation in Eastwood parish, Renfrewshire, in 1739. In 1799 the theological division between the ?Auld Licht? and the ?New Licht? led to a split, in which the majority held to the ?Auld Licht? and retained the church building. After the Disruption, and a dispute with the Secession Presbytery, they joined the Free Church and later built a new church in Rossendale Street (dedicated 1871). The congregation in due course became part of the United Free Church and terminated in 1930 on uniting with Pollokshaws Auldfield as Auldfield. |
