The West Church began as a mission cause, sanction being granted by the Hamilton Free Church Presbytery on 17 July 1874. Burnbank Mission Station held its services in the County Hall, Beckford Street and on 1 June 1875 was petitioned and raised in status to a full charge and known as Burnbank Free Church of Scotland. In 1901 it changed its name to The West United Free Church, then, at the union of October 1929, it became the The West Church. The model Deed of Constitution was adopted on 20 March 1967 and is now a Quoad Sacra parish. |
