Mains Street Church, Glasgow, originated from the division of the seceding Anti-Burghers into the Auld Lichts and New Lichts in 1806. The minority Auld Lichts formed a congregation in the following year and were formally constituted in 1808. Other groups arising from other disputes joined them and they eventually erected a church in Mains Street near Holm Street, Anderston (1837, replaced by a larger building on the same site, 1881). It acceded to the Church of Scotland in 1956 and was terminated by dissolution in 1964. As a Church of Scotland charge it was in the presbytery of Glasgow and the synod of Clydesdale. |
