The congregation of Ancrum Free Church was first established at the time of the Disruption in 1843 and began life in the form of a preaching station. A church was erected to house the congregation in 1851 and the charge was later sanctioned in 1859. In 1900, at the union of the Free Church and the United Presbyterians, Ancrum Free Church became Ancrum United Free Church and at the 1900 union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church, the Ancrum United Free was renamed Ancrum East, Church of Scotland. In 1933 Ancrum East joined with the congregation of Ancrum West, under the name of Ancrum, and after this local union the former United Free church was sold. Ancrum United Free and Church of Scotland East sat within the Presbytery of Jedburgh and Kelso. |
