In July 1897 the United Presbyterian Extension Board made a grant of £500 towards erecting a church hall on the borders of Pollokshields due to the increased population in the area, and in September of the following year the memorial stone was laid. Worship officially began in Glasgow, Newlands United Presbyterian Church when the charge was sanctioned in 1899. The following year the United Presbyterian Church united with the Free Church and the congregation at Newlands followed suit, becoming Glasgow, Newlands United Free Church. The congregation were still worshipping in a hall at this time, but in 1903 a new church was built along with a small hall and church officer's house. The charge passed back to the Established Church in 1929 as Glasgow, Newlands South Church of Scotland. |
