Yarrow and Meggat Free Church originated soon after the Disruption, when a preacher was appointed for Yarrow in 1844. A church and manse, and the sanctioning of the charge, followed in 1845, and in the same year Meggat was added to its area. It passed successively to the United Free Church, as Yarrow, and to the Church of Scotland as Yarrow St Mary's. It was reduced in status in 1935 and united with Yarrow in 1939. The Church of Scotland charge was in the presbytery of Melrose and the synod of Merse and Teviotdale. |
