Description |
The Free congregation at Argyll Square began in 1885 when a number of people left the High Free in Oban to form a new congregation . The charge at Argyll Square was purely English speaking and was officially sanctioned in 1886. Worship initially took place in the Argyllshire Gathering Halls, prior to the erection of the church in 1888. In 1900 the congregation passed to the United Free Church and to the Established Church in 1929. The charge united with St Columba's in 1949 to form Oban St Columba's - Argyll Square, and a further union in 1983 with two charges: Kilmore and Kilbride Oban Old; and Oban Christ's Church Dunollie; to form Kilmore and Oban Church of Scotland. |
