Johnshaven Church of Scotland has its origins in the Original Secession of 1733. On 22 February 1769, Mr David Harper was ordained to the ministry of the Associate Secession Church by the Associate Presbytery of Perth and Dunfermline, and inducted to the pastoral charge of the Associate Congregation of Johnshaven. In 1828 the congregation became known as the United Associate Congregation of Johnshaven, and in 1847 as United Presbyterian Church Johnshaven. In 1900 Johnshaven United Presbyterian Church united with Johnshaven Free Church, to form St John's United Free Church, and in 1903 St John's United Free Church united with Johnshaven West United Free Church to form Johnshaven United Free Church, becoming Johnshaven Church of Scotland in 1929. In 1998 the parishes of Johnshaven linked with Benholme and Garvock linked with St Cyrus united to form Mearns Coastal Parish in the Presbytery of Kincardine. |
