Note: This was the first congregation to `come out' before the Disruption of 1843. Following the death of the minister in 1837 a presentation in favour of the Rev John Edwards was issued by the Earl of Fife and his trustees. The majority of the congregation dissented to the proposed call, and the Synod of Moray enjoined Strathbogie Presbytery to reject Edwards. This they refused to do, and the objectors appealed to the Assembly who ordered the presbytery to reject Edwards in favour of the Rev David Henry. Edwards successfully appealed to the Court of Session and following subsequent litigation and disputes involving the presbytery and the General Assembly, Edwards was inducted on 21 January 1841. The pro Henry faction then formed a Non-Intrusion congregation, the foundation stone of its new church being laid on 29 June 1841. This congregation joined the Free Church in 1843 |
