Brunton Church, Glasgow, originated in 1855 as Albert Street United Free Church, a mission church in Townhead under Regent Place Church. It became known successively as Blackfriars United Presbyterian (Mission) Church; Albert Street United Presbyterian (after the removal to a new building in Albert Street, 1872); Albert Street United Free (after the union of 1900); and Brunton United Free (from 1927, a tribute to Alexander Brunton, a former minister). It terminated in 1930 on uniting with Macleod Church as Macleod (II).The Kirk Sessions of presbyterian churches were modelled on those of the established church. |
