Alexandria United Secession Church originated in a dispute within Bonhill Relief Church in 1841, leading to a call by members in Alexandria to a minister in the following year. A church was erected shortly afterwards. It passed successively to the United Presbyterian and United Free Churches (as Alexandria Bridge Street). A new church was built in 1909 and the old one sold to the Baptists. Alexandria Bridge Street transferred to the Church of Scotland and linked with Bonhill Old in 1958. The linking arrangement was terminated in 1974. The Church of Scotland charge was in the presbytery of Dumbarton and the synod of Clydesdale. |
